LED Ring: OverviewUpdated 18 hours ago
The LED Ring step controls the physical LED ring light around your Windows-based FMX booth.
You use it to turn the ring on with a specific pattern, color, and speed, and later turn it off in the flow.
It helps attract attention, give guests clear visual feedback, and make the whole experience feel more polished and dynamic.
What Is the LED Ring Step?
LED Ring is a simple lighting control step in the Workflow Builder.
From the workflow point of view, the LED Ring step:
Works on Windows setups that have a compatible FMX LED ring controller connected
Has an Action: Start or Stop
When Action = Start, it turns the ring on with a chosen pattern, color, and speed
When Action = Stop, it turns the ring off
Keeps the effect running across later steps until you explicitly stop it (or the session ends)
When you configure Action = Start, you choose:
A pattern (one of 8 options), such as:
Spinning Wheel – a rotating “theater chase” effect around the ring
Rainbow – smooth cycling through all colors
Glitter – sparkling, random twinkles around the ring
Scanner – a light that sweeps back and forth
Right Fill / Left Fill – light gradually fills the ring from one side
Right Ball / Left Ball – a single “ball” of light moving around the ring
A color (for color-based patterns):
White, Red, Green, Blue, Purple, Yellow, Cyan, or Orange
For Rainbow and Glitter patterns, the color choice is ignored – the pattern controls colors automatically
A speed:
Slow, Medium, or Fast – how quickly the animation plays
From the guest’s point of view:
They see the ring around the camera glowing or animating in different ways
Lights can make it obvious that the booth is:
Idle and ready
Framing or counting down
Processing something in the background
When Should You Use an LED Ring?
Use an LED Ring step when you want to add clear, visual “signals” to the experience:
Attract guests when the booth is idle (bright or rainbow patterns)
Indicate that the booth is ready for the next guest
Provide soft, calm light while guests frame their shot
Show that something is happening in the background (AI effect, upload, processing)
Celebrate success (for example, green fast animation after a successful capture)
You don’t need LED Ring lighting for the workflow to function, but it adds a strong visual layer that makes the booth feel more premium and alive.
How the LED Ring Fits in the Workflow
In the Workflow Builder, you add an LED Ring like any other step:
On the canvas, click Add Step and select LED Ring
Choose Action: Start or Stop
If you start the LED Ring, select the pattern, color, and speed
Connect the LED Ring step before or after other steps, such as Live View, Take Photo, AI effects, Preview, or Print
Behavior in the flow:
When the workflow reaches an LED Ring (Start) step, FMX sends the chosen pattern, color, and speed to the connected LED ring controller
The ring starts animating and keeps running through the later steps
When the workflow reaches an LED Ring (Stop) step, FMX turns the ring off
If there is no compatible LED ring hardware connected, the step has no visible effect for guests
Typical Use Cases
Attract Mode / Idle Loop
Use a bright or Rainbow pattern while the booth is waiting for guests.
Example:
LED Ring (Start – Rainbow, Fast) → Welcome / Selection Screen → LED Ring (Stop) → Take Photo
2. Processing Indicator
Show guests that something is happening while AI or uploads run in the background.
Example:
Take Photo → LED Ring (Start – Rainbow, Slow) → AI Effect → LED Ring (Stop) → Preview
The slow rainbow animation keeps the booth looking active and interesting while AI processing completes.
Why the LED Ring Is Useful
For event operators:
Visual feedback – Makes it obvious when the booth is idle, busy, or capturing
Extra polish – The booth looks more professional and high-end
Flexible control – You choose exactly when lights start, stop, and how they look
Simple configuration – Just pick Start/Stop plus pattern, color, and speed
For clients and guests:
Attracts attention – A glowing, animated ring naturally pulls people toward the camera
Clear cues – Guests understand what’s happening without extra instructions
Better atmosphere – Dynamic lighting makes the experience more exciting and memorable
By placing LED Ring steps at key moments in your workflow, you can add energy, clarity, and visual impact to your FMX experiences—without making the journey more complicated for guests.
