Hi, dear owners!

This article will explain how to create a 3D physical mosaic!

Grid Board Planning:

1. Create a vector object in the outline by Adobe Illustrator. Please note that the size of the file should be an even number (in inches).

2. Save as DXF.

3. Place the background image into the DXF file and insert the image to the object (by the compound path and clipping mask).

4. Save the file as PNG, 300 DP.

5. Load your final PNG file to the Photo Mosaic Software.

6. Place the outline file created on the grid board file under it. Mark the outline with a spot color and save it as a PDF.

7. Send the PDF file to a print shop to be printer on a PVC board.

8. Cut the model according to the outline drawing on the board.

Physical Structure\Model Notes:

  • The structure should be durable and steady enough to resist an adult light hand-push.
  • Leave one facet of the model flat, so you will be able to stick the mosaic tiles on it.
  • The most common material creating the model will be wood or plastic. You want to keep the model at a reasonable weight. You can also consider using Styrofoam that will be coated with a 1mm foam PVC sheet.
  • Plan the transfer of the structure from the workshop to the event location (Privet car, SUV, etc.). It might require assembly on site.
  • Consult with the workshop about a design that will make the grid board replaceable.
