Troubleshooting Steps: When Two Bots Draw the Same Image Differently

Two Draw Me Bot robots can draw the same image differently when calibration, paper placement, pen pressure, speed, or robot setup is not matched between them. Use this checklist to bring both robots back to consistent output.

Compare the Setup First

Check both robots side by side:

  • Same paper size
  • Same paper position on the tray
  • Same pen model and ink level
  • Same pen holder position
  • Same drawing size setting
  • Same X and Y offsets
  • Same Z-height calibration
  • Same drawing speed
  • Same app version

Small differences in any of these settings can produce visible differences in the final drawing.

Recalibrate Z-Height

If one robot draws lighter, darker, thicker, or skips lines:

  1. Place the same paper stock under both robots.
  2. Recalibrate Z-height on each robot.
  3. Lower the pen until it barely touches the paper.
  4. Run a short test drawing.

Do not copy the Z-height number from one robot to another unless the hardware and tray position are physically identical.

Recalibrate XY Position

If one drawing is shifted, stretched, or off-center:

  1. Run XY calibration on both robots.
  2. Confirm the selected paper size matches the loaded paper.
  3. Check custom drawing dimensions if enabled.
  4. Save the offsets for each robot.

Each robot should keep its own calibration values.

Match Drawing Speed

If one robot produces rougher or less consistent lines:

  1. Open the working speed settings.
  2. Compare the G-code feed rates.
  3. Reduce the speed of the robot with inconsistent output.
  4. Test again with the same image.

Higher speed can improve throughput, but may reduce line consistency depending on pen, paper, and calibration.

Compare the Source Job

Confirm both robots are using the same processed drawing file. If one robot receives a different regenerated output, it may draw a different set of lines even when the original guest photo is the same.

When testing consistency, use one known-good drawing job and send it to both robots.
