Draw Me Bot: Calibration

Updated Yesterday · 1 min readBeginner

Calibrate the Draw Me Bot whenever the robot, tray, pen, or paper changes. Calibration tells the robot where the paper is and how much pressure the pen should apply.

When to Calibrate

Calibrate:

  • Before the first event setup
  • After moving the robot
  • After changing the paper size
  • After replacing the pen
  • After changing the drawing tray
  • When lines are too light, too heavy, or off-center

Transportation can shift the hardware enough to require a new calibration.

Z-Height Calibration

Z-height controls pen pressure.

  1. Place the event paper on the tray.
  2. Open DMBot calibration.
  3. Home the robot.
  4. Lower the pen slowly.
  5. Stop when the pen barely touches the paper.
  6. Save the calibration.
  7. Run a test drawing.

If the pen is too high, lines may be faint or missing. If the pen is too low, lines may be thick or the pen may drag.

X and Y Calibration

X and Y calibration controls where the drawing appears on the page (left/right and up/down).

  1. Select the correct paper size.
  2. Run the position test.
  3. Review the reference marks.
  4. Adjust X and Y offsets in small steps.
  5. Save the values.
  6. Test with a centered drawing.

Always place the paper in the same tray position used during calibration.

Test Before the Event

Run a full drawing test and confirm:

  • The drawing is centered.
  • Line pressure is consistent.
  • The robot moves smoothly.
  • The paper does not slide.
  • The output matches the selected paper size.
