FMX for iPad: Global Settings Overview

Updated Yesterday · 2 min readIntermediate

Global Settings is the central configuration panel in FMX for iPadOS. All device-level settings -- camera, appearance, printing, display, and more -- are managed here. The iPad settings panel is organized differently from the Windows version, with tabs tailored to the iPad platform and its supported hardware.

Accessing Global Settings

Open Global Settings from the main dashboard by tapping the Settings icon. The panel opens with a tab bar for navigation between setting categories.

Settings Tabs

The iPad Global Settings panel contains the following tabs:

TabPurpose
CameraCamera position, device type, resolution, aspect ratio, mirror, flash, and quality
Photo CaptureCapture behavior, countdown, and photo-taking settings
Media SyncCloud upload and synchronization preferences
Photo/Video PreviewPreview display timing and behavior after capture
SaveLocal storage and file-saving options
AppearanceTheme, branding, and UI display preferences
PrinterPrinter connection method (PrintPal, FMPrint, AirPrint)
PrintingPrint layout, copy count, and print behavior
External ScreenExternal display connection and mirroring/slideshow settings
SlideshowSlideshow order, content filtering, timing, and rotation
Draw MeDraw Me Bot external screen configuration
AboutApp version, license info, and account details

Tip: The iPad tab list differs from Windows. Windows organizes settings into broader categories (Camera, Cloud, Devices, Experience, Sharing, Storage, Theme, Payment), while iPad breaks them into more focused, feature-specific tabs.

Save Behavior

FMX for iPadOS applies setting changes as you make them, allowing you to see the effect immediately. However, changes must be explicitly saved to persist across app restarts:

  • Immediate preview -- Changes take effect in the running app as soon as you adjust them, so you can see the result without restarting
  • Save required -- You must save your changes before leaving the settings panel to write them to disk
  • Unsaved changes are lost -- If the app is closed or crashes before saving, any modifications since the last save are discarded

Tip: Save frequently when adjusting multiple settings. After finishing a group of related changes, save before moving to the next tab.

Differences from Windows Global Settings

Key structural differences between iPad and Windows settings:

  • No Cloud tab -- Cloud sync options are found under the Media Sync tab on iPad
  • No Devices tab -- Printer settings are in their own dedicated Printer and Printing tabs; microphone and LED settings are handled elsewhere
  • No Payment tab -- Payment terminal integration is not available on iPad
  • No Storage tab -- Storage options are consolidated under the Save tab
  • Separate Slideshow and External Screen tabs -- Windows combines these; iPad splits them for clarity
  • Draw Me tab -- Dedicated tab for Draw Me Bot external screen settings, which has no direct equivalent on Windows
