FMX for iPad: System Requirements
FMX for iPadOS is a native Swift application that delivers the full photo booth experience on Apple's iPad platform. Before installing, ensure your iPad meets these requirements.
Supported iPad Models
FMX for iPadOS requires an iPad with an A12 Bionic chip or newer. This includes:
- iPad Pro (all models) -- Recommended for best performance
- iPad Air (3rd generation and later)
- iPad (8th generation and later)
- iPad mini (5th generation and later)
Tip: iPad Pro models with M-series chips deliver the best performance, especially when running AI features and video recording simultaneously.
Operating System
- Minimum: iPadOS 16.0
- Recommended: Latest available iPadOS version
Storage
- Minimum: 5 GB free for the app and basic operation
- Recommended: 20+ GB free for events with video recording, AI processing, and large media libraries
Camera
FMX for iPadOS supports both built-in and compatible external cameras:
| Camera source | Support and setup |
|---|---|
| Built-in iPad camera | Front or rear camera, supported lens selection, high-resolution capture, mirroring, and screen flash. |
| External Canon | Compatible DSLR/mirrorless bodies over USB tethering. |
| External Nikon | Compatible DSLR/mirrorless bodies over USB PTP; use JPEG or JPEG+RAW and test the body's advertised capabilities. |
| External Sony | Compatible mirrorless bodies over USB remote/PTP; normally set the camera to PC Remote. |
| External GoPro | Supported GoPro cameras over USB-C; set USB Connection to GoPro Connect and insert an SD card. |
External cameras require a physical iPad, a USB data cable, and any appropriate USB-C adapter or powered hub. Camera support is capability-based on iPadOS, so test the exact body, firmware, cable, and event workflow before production use. Generic UVC webcams are supported by FMX for Windows, not as an iPad external-camera source.
Internet Connection
- Required for: Cloud sync, AI processing, online galleries, email/SMS sharing, license validation
- Not required for: Basic photo capture, local storage, offline gallery
A stable Wi-Fi connection is recommended.
Supported Accessories

- Bluetooth LED ring -- Wireless LED lighting control
- PrintPal -- Network-based wireless print delivery
- Bluetooth microphone -- For audio in video recordings
- USB-C data adapter or powered hub -- For compatible external Canon, Nikon, Sony, or GoPro cameras when direct connection is not practical
