Video Builder

Updated Today · 3 min readIntermediate

The Video Builder is a timeline-based video composition editor in Foto Master Cloud for designing video output templates. It defines how recorded video clips, photos, overlays, soundtracks, and AI effects are assembled into the final video guests receive.

You access the Video Builder from the Cloud dashboard when editing an event's video output configuration. Because it is Cloud-based, the same Video Builder is used for all platforms — including FMX for iPad.

Note: Video output is particularly relevant for the V-Motion 180 (which captures 180-degree video) and any FMX for iPad workflow that uses the Record Video step.

What Is a Video Template?

A video template defines the composition rules for the final video output. When a guest records a video at the booth, the Video Builder template determines how the raw footage is assembled, what effects are applied, and what the final output looks like — including slow motion, overlays, branded intros/outros, and AI effects.

Timeline Editor

The Video Builder uses a professional-style timeline interface:

  • Tracks — Multiple parallel tracks for layering clips, overlays, and audio
  • Playhead — Scrub through the timeline to preview the composition
  • Zoom — Zoom in/out on the timeline for precise editing
  • Drag and drop — Place clips on tracks by dragging from the media library

Media Categories

Recording

The guest captured a video clip. This is the primary content.

  • Trim — Set start and end trim points
  • Speed — Adjust playback speed (slow motion is popular on V-Motion 180)
  • Reverse — Play the clip in reverse
  • Volume — Adjust or mute audio
  • Loop — Loop the clip to fill a longer timeline
  • Fit mode — Cover, contain, stretch, or native sizing
  • Crop — Crop to a specific region

External Media

Pre-uploaded video or image files that play alongside the recording — branded intros, outros, transitions, or sponsor clips.

Overlay

Transparent video or image overlays that layer on top of the recording — animated frames, branded borders, particle effects, watermarks.

  • Opacity — Control transparency
  • Position on the timeline to appear at specific moments

Soundtrack

Background music or audio that plays under the video.

  • Volume, mute, trim, and loop controls

Filters

Visual effects applied to the recording at specific timeline moments. Adjustable intensity.

AI Video

AI-powered video effects and transformations.

  • AI style — Select from available AI video styles
  • Custom prompt — Enter a text prompt for custom AI video effects

Output Settings

  • Format: MP4 or GIF
  • Resolution presets:
    • Landscape: 1920×1080, 1280×720, 640×480
    • Portrait: 1080×1920, 720×1280, 480×640
    • Auto (matches source)

Tip: For V-Motion 180 events, portrait 1080×1920 is ideal for Instagram and TikTok sharing. For landscape video captured with Record Video, use 1920×1080.

Import/Export

  • Export JSON — Save your video template as a JSON file for backup or reuse
  • Import JSON — Load a previously exported template

Creating a Video Template

  1. In the Cloud dashboard, navigate to your event
  2. Open the Video Output tab
  3. Add a Recording clip to the primary track
  4. Layer overlays, soundtracks, and effects as needed
  5. Set output format and resolution
  6. Save your template — it syncs to FMX on the next event sync

Tips for Great Video Templates

  • Keep total duration reasonable — 15–30 seconds is ideal for social sharing
  • For V-Motion 180, a slow-motion effect (50% speed) on the arm sweep creates the best visual impact
  • Add a short branded intro or outro for professional polish
  • Test with actual footage on the iPad before the event to verify the composition
  • Use overlays sparingly — too many layers can increase processing time
