V180: Motor Step Overview
The V180 step drives the motor on the V-Motion 180 platform. It is what makes the 180-degree sweep happen: the arm moves around the guest while the camera records, producing the slow-motion orbit shot the platform is built for.
The step requires V-Motion 180 hardware and runs on the iPad app, so it is hidden from the Steps Library on Windows builds. For assembly, power, and safety, see V-Motion 180 Overview and V-Motion 180: Safety Features.
What Is the V180 Step?
From the workflow's point of view, the step:
- Sends a motion command to the platform and continues immediately
- Does not block the workflow and does not wait for the movement to finish
- Has no guest-facing screen of its own
That last point is the one that catches people out. Because the step does not wait, the workflow keeps running while the arm is still moving. You control how long the sweep lasts by controlling what happens after the Move command — usually a Record Video step followed by an animation with a Time trigger.
Settings
Action is the only setting, and it has four values:
- Move — run the standard 180-degree sweep. This is the default and the one nearly every workflow uses
- Left — move the arm toward the left position
- Right — move the arm toward the right position
- Stop — halt movement immediately
Left and Right are positioning commands. Use them to park the arm at a known starting point before a sweep, or to reset it between guests. Stop is both an end-of-sweep command and your manual abort.
When Should You Use the V180 Step?
Use it in every V-Motion 180 workflow. Without it, the platform is a static camera mount.
Typical reasons:
- The signature 180-degree orbit video around a guest or group
- Returning the arm to a consistent start position between sessions
- Splitting a session into two shorter sweeps with a pause in the middle
- Stopping motion at the end of the capture so the arm is not left mid-travel
How the V180 Step Fits in the Workflow
A typical sweep looks like this:
- Touch-to-start animation
- V180 (Left) — park the arm at the start position
- LED Strip V180 (start, Bright White) — capture lighting
- Countdown animation
- Record Video (Start)
- V180 (Move) — begin the sweep
- An animation with a Time trigger, long enough to cover the sweep
- V180 (Stop)
- Record Video (Stop)
- Preview, sharing steps, End Session
Two things make this work:
- Record Video starts before the motion and stops after it, so the whole sweep is inside the clip
- A Time-triggered animation holds the workflow for the duration of the sweep. Since the V180 step does not block, this animation is what sets the shot length
Time the animation to the real sweep duration on the actual platform, and add a small margin at each end. Too short and the video cuts while the arm is still moving; too long and guests are left standing in silence at the end.
Safety
The platform has physical safety features, but the workflow should not fight them. Do not chain Move commands back to back without a Stop in between, and always leave a Stop before End Session so the arm is not left travelling when the next guest steps up. Keep the sweep path clear during the event and brief attendants on the emergency stop.
Why the V180 Step Is Useful
For event operators:
- Produces a shot that no handheld or fixed booth can match, which is the reason clients book the platform
- Repeatable framing and timing on every session, with no operator involvement
- Left and Right let you guarantee a consistent start position, so every clip looks the same
For guests:
- A cinematic orbit video of themselves, ready to post
- They stand still and the booth does the work
Common Mistakes
Expecting the step to wait. It does not. Without a Time-triggered animation after Move, the workflow races ahead and Record Video stops before the sweep finishes.
Record Video started after the Move command. The beginning of the sweep is missing from the clip. Start recording first.
No Stop command. The arm is left mid-travel and the next session starts from the wrong position. Always Stop before End Session.
Not parking the arm first. Sessions start from wherever the last one ended, so clips are inconsistent. Add a Left or Right step at the top of the flow.
Confusing it with the LED Strip V180 step. Motion and lighting are separate steps on the same hardware. If the lights are wrong, check the LED step; if the arm is wrong, check this one.
