Printer Comparison: DNP Models for Photo Booths
Overview
DNP photo printers are widely used by photo booth operators because they are dependable, event-ready, and produce professional dye-sublimation prints. FMX supports printing workflows with the main DNP models commonly used in the photo booth industry.
DNP DS-RX1HS
The DNP DS-RX1HS is one of the most reliable and robust choices for photo booth operators. It is a proven workhorse, especially for busy events where durability, high media capacity, and consistent output are more important than compact size.
Paper sizes: 2×6 strips, 4×6, 5×7, 6×6, and 6×8.
Print speed: Approximately 12.4 seconds per 4×6 print, up to 290 4×6 prints per hour in high-speed mode.
Media capacity: Up to 700 4×6 prints per roll, or 350 6×8 prints per roll.
Best for: High-volume events, long events, operators who want fewer media changes, and users who prioritize reliability and durability.
The RX1HS is a strong default recommendation for many professional photo booth operators because it is built to handle demanding event environments with minimal interruptions.
DNP DS620A
The DNP DS620A is a compact and fast professional printer. It is a good option for mobile operators who want a smaller footprint, fast printing, and flexible print-size support.
Paper sizes: 2×6 strips, 4×6, 5×7, 6×8, and panoramic options such as 6×14 and 6×20 when using compatible media/software workflows.
Print speed: Less than 9 seconds per 4×6 print, depending on print mode and settings.
Media capacity: Up to 400 4×6 prints per roll.
Best for: Mobile operators, compact setups, fast event workflows, and general photo booth use.
Choose the DS620A when portability and speed are key priorities.
DNP DS820A
The DNP DS820A is designed for larger-format prints. It is less common for standard photo booth strip or 4×6 workflows, but is ideal when the event requires premium large prints.
Paper sizes: 8×10, 8×12, and panoramic print options up to 8×32 when using compatible workflows.
Print speed: Approximately 29 seconds per 8×10 print in high-speed glossy mode.
Best for: Portrait activations, premium event printing, large-format prints, and 8-inch wide output.
Choose the DS820A when large-format printing is required.
Choosing the Right Printer
For most professional photo booth operators, the DNP DS-RX1HS is the safest and most robust recommendation. It offers excellent reliability, high media capacity, and strong performance for demanding events.
Choose the DS620A if you want a more compact printer with faster 4×6 output and flexible media options.
Choose the DS820A if your event requires large-format prints such as 8×10 or 8×12.
Media and Ribbon
DNP printers use dye-sublimation media sets that include both paper and ribbon. The paper and ribbon are designed to work together as a matched set.
Do not mix paper from one media box with ribbon from another media box. Mixing paper and ribbon can cause print count mismatches, media errors, or inconsistent print results. Always load the matching paper and ribbon from the same media kit.
