Camera Troubleshooting
Use this guide when FMX does not detect a camera, capture fails, or image quality is inconsistent.
FMX Windows includes the supported Canon, Nikon, and Sony camera payloads it needs. Do not troubleshoot current FMX by installing separate manufacturer SDK packages unless Foto Master support explicitly provides that instruction.
Camera Not Detected
- Restart FMX after connecting the camera.
- Connect the camera directly to the PC, not through a USB hub.
- Try a known-good USB data cable.
- Confirm the camera is powered by a full battery or AC/dummy battery.
- Close camera apps that can lock the device, such as Canon EOS Utility, Nikon transfer/control utilities, or Sony Imaging Edge.
- Check Windows Device Manager for driver or USB errors.
- Update or reinstall FMX if the camera worked before and stopped after a software change.
Camera Mode
- Use the camera mode recommended for tethered/remote shooting.
- Disable auto power-off/sleep on the camera.
- Turn off wireless transfer modes that interfere with USB control.
- Use manual exposure settings for consistent event lighting.
Brand-Specific Checks
Canon
- Close Canon EOS Utility.
- Set the camera for PC/remote shooting where the model exposes that option.
- Use a reliable USB data cable and continuous power.
Nikon
- Close Nikon import/control utilities.
- Disable auto-transfer features that take ownership of the USB connection.
- Use a supported Nikon camera model whose current SDK session exposes the capabilities FMX needs.
Sony
- Set USB connection mode for PC Remote where available.
- Close Sony Imaging Edge or any other app using the camera.
- Use continuous power for long events.
Blurry or Dark Photos
- Confirm autofocus is enabled and the focus area is appropriate for a booth.
- Use a fast enough shutter speed for guests who move.
- Add or rebalance lighting instead of relying on high ISO.
- Clean the lens and check that the camera mount is stable.
- Take test shots at the venue before guests arrive.
Camera Stops Mid-Event
- Disable Windows USB power saving for USB root hubs.
- Disable system sleep on the booth computer.
- Disable camera auto-off.
- Check for loose USB or power cables.
- Review FMX logs and reinstall/update FMX if the issue repeats.
iPad Note
FMX for iPadOS uses the built-in iPad camera and the supported External Canon Camera flow. For Nikon, Sony, or other external cameras, use FMX for Windows.
