AI Not Generating Photos

Updated Yesterday · 4 min read

When the booth runs through a session normally but no AI photo appears, or the AI step is skipped entirely, the cause is almost always one of: a missing workflow element, no internet, or an empty credit balance. The good news is that all three are quick to check, and we recommend running through them once before every event so you walk in confident the AI step is ready to go.

Quick Diagnostics

Before troubleshooting, confirm:

  • A stable internet connection is present. AI features are cloud-based — without internet, nothing generates.
  • Your Cloud account has a positive credit balance (cloud.fotomaster.com).
  • The workflow contains an AI element (AI Headshot, AI Style Pop, AI Cartoon, etc.) and an AI Processed trigger on the animation that follows it.
  • The same preset worked previously — if it did, the problem is environmental (network, credits, account), not configuration.

Common Issues

AI Step Is Missing from the Workflow

Problem: The session completes, the photo prints or shares, but no AI transformation was applied.

Cause: Either the AI element was never added, or — far more common after a workflow edit — the AI Processed animation trigger was removed. This trigger tells the booth to wait for the cloud to finish before moving on. Without it, the workflow moves straight from camera to layout, skipping the AI result.

Solution:

  1. Open the preset in the workflow editor.
  2. Confirm the order is: Take Photo → AI element → Animation with AI Processed trigger → Preview/Layout/Save. See Workflow Step Types Reference for every available step.
  3. If you have multiple AI states, each one needs its own AI Processed animation.
  4. Run a test session before guests arrive.

Cloud Connection Is Down or Unstable

Problem: AI worked at home but stops at the venue. You see "AI not working," timeouts, or no result.

Cause: AI processing happens on Foto Master Cloud servers — the booth uploads, the cloud processes, and the result downloads back. Convention center Wi-Fi, weak phone hotspots, and metal-walled venues are common culprits.

Solution:

  1. Open a browser on the booth and load speedtest.net. You want at least 5 Mbps up and down.
  2. If venue Wi-Fi is weak, switch to a personal hotspot (4G/5G phone or MiFi).
  3. Verify the booth is actually using the new connection. As one agent noted: "The Fortuna is not recognizing your hotspot making you unable to connect to the internet."
  4. Restart the booth software after changing networks.

Credit Balance Is Empty

Problem: AI ran fine yesterday, but today every session fails or returns a credit error.

Cause: Each AI operation consumes credits. If the balance hits zero, AI calls are rejected. A failed payment or unusually busy event can drain your balance unexpectedly.

Solution:

  1. Sign in to cloud.fotomaster.com and check the credit balance.
  2. If empty, purchase a credit pack or top-up immediately.
  3. Verify your subscription is active under Billing. Declined cards silently disable auto-renewal.
  4. For high-volume events, consider auto-recharge.

"AI Processed" Element Required After a Recent FMX Update

Problem: A workflow that worked stops generating AI photos after you update FMX.

Cause: A late-March 2026 FMX update made the AI Processed element a required workflow component. Older workflows without it now silently fail at the AI step. This is a known UX regression.

Solution:

  1. Open the workflow in the editor.
  2. Add an Animation element directly after the AI element.
  3. Set the trigger to AI Processed.
  4. Save and run a full test session.

Tip: When upgrading FMX before an event, always re-test every preset. A workflow that "didn't change" can still break because the software's expectations changed around it.

Workflow Edit Broke a Previously Working Preset

Problem: You tweaked a preset and now AI no longer fires.

Cause: Workflow elements have ordering and dependency rules. Moving the Preview before the AI Processed animation can break the AI handoff.

Solution:

  1. Compare the broken workflow to a known-good preset. Supported sequence: Take Photo → AI element → AI Processed animation → Preview → Layout/Save → Share.
  2. As one agent advised: "You need to put the Preview after the Preloader since that has the AI Processed trigger."
  3. Use the workflow's built-in Test function before going live.

Cloud Service Is Down

If internet, credits, and workflow are all good but AI still fails for every session, load cloud.fotomaster.com from another device and check the Foto Master status page. Contact support with your account email and a screenshot. See AI Overview for an introduction to how Cloud AI features work end-to-end.
