Troubleshoot: Unleveled Bot DrawingUpdated 17 days ago

If your Bot’s drawings appear tilted or uneven—like the marker touches one side of the paper but not the other—use this guide to resolve the issue.

Primary Causes & Fixes

  1. Pen Is Dry or Worn Out

    • The marker might no longer produce consistent ink. Try replacing it with a new one and test again.

  2. Table Not Leveled

    • Ensure the surface where the Bot is drawing is flat and stable.

    • Use a spirit level to verify.

  3. Bot Not Properly Seated

    • Remove the Bot from the paper holder.

    • Clean the paper holder base and the Bot’s bottom to remove any debris.

    • Reseat the Bot firmly and ensure it sits flush with the surface.

  4. Bot Firmware or Calibration Issue

    • May require a firmware update or factory reset (see below).

Step-by-Step Troubleshooting

First, try the steps mentioned in the Pen Drawing Outside of the Paper Holder troubleshoot guide, which can be found here.

If the problems still recur, it can be a Leveling issue. This can be solved by:

  1. Place the bot outside of the holder on a flat surface
  2. Open the Rotrics Software and connect the bot to it via the Terminal
  3. Go to the 3D Print tab (The cube icon on the left side) and make sure that you are on the Control Panel view (and not the G-Code view, which is the default) and press Leveling
  4. Click on "Reset XY Slope Rate" in the window that pops up and wait for the "Level Started" pop-up, and, just like when doing the calibration, press the Step Length until the pen touches the paper. Click Save.
  5. Continue to Point B and do the same thing until you finish with Point D.
  6. Press the Leveling button at the bottom of the screen
  7. Go back to the main screen of the Rotrics software, calibrate the arm, and test.
