Lock Settings Behind a Code
FMX for Windows now includes a Lock Virtual Keypad option that helps prevent guests from entering the Settings panel during an event.
This is especially useful for unattended booths, retail kiosks, self-service activations, or any setup where guests may interact with the booth without an operator standing nearby.
What It Does
When enabled, the Exit to Settings corner shortcut will no longer open Settings immediately.
Instead, FMX displays a full-screen lock screen asking for a numeric code. Only after the correct code is entered will the operator be allowed into Settings.
The corner shortcut itself still works the same way: press and hold one of the configured screen corners for 3 seconds. The lock simply adds a PIN step before allowing access to the Settings panel.
How to Set It Up
- Open Global Settings.
- Go to Experience.
- Scroll to Enable Lock Virtual Keypad.
- Turn the toggle On.
- Enter your numeric code, up to 12 digits.
- Use the eye icon to show or hide the code while typing.
- Click Save Changes at the bottom of the Global Settings panel.
The next time someone triggers the Exit to Settings corner shortcut, the keypad will appear before Settings opens.
What the Lock Screen Looks Like
The lock screen appears as a clean full-screen overlay with:
- A numeric keypad from 0 to 9
- A masked code input field
- A delete key for corrections
Once the correct code is entered, FMX unlocks Settings. If the code is incorrect, the user stays inside the experience.
You can also enter the code using a physical keyboard.
Important Notes
- The code is numeric only, making it easy to use on touch screens.
- The code can be up to 12 digits.
- If the lock is enabled but no code is configured, FMX will use the default fallback code: 1234.
- Set your own code before deploying the booth at an event.
- The lock only protects the Exit to Settings corner shortcuts.
- It does not change the rest of the guest experience.
- Changes only take effect after clicking Save Changes.
Why This Matters
Unattended booths give guests direct access to the screen, which can sometimes lead to accidental or intentional attempts to exit the experience.
The Lock Virtual Keypad gives operators fast access when needed while keeping end users out of the booth configuration.
Operators can still reach Settings quickly, but guests cannot enter without the correct code.
⚠️ Note for Retro Photo Booth (RPB) Owners: Because this model utilizes a Touch Overlay / Foil rather than a standard integrated touch screen, the absolute top-right corner is a hardware dead zone where touch cannot register. The standard right-corner shortcut will not work on this system. Please use the top-left corner instead, as that area remains fully functional.
