Upgrading from Basic to Pro: What to Expect
Thinking about moving up to Pro? Great choice! This article explains exactly what happens when you upgrade from the Basic plan to the Pro plan, including what you will be charged and when. It covers both monthly and annual subscriptions, with real examples so there are no surprises.
Plan Pricing at a Glance
| Plan | Monthly Billing | Annual Billing |
|---|---|---|
| Basic | $49 per month | $39 per month, billed annually ($468 per year) |
| Pro | $99 per month | $79 per month, billed annually ($948 per year) |
How Upgrade Charges Work
When you upgrade, you are only charged the price difference between the two plans for the time remaining in your current billing period. This is called proration. You never pay twice for time you have already paid for.
One important thing to know: how long you have already been subscribed does not affect the upgrade charge. The only thing that matters is how much time is left in your current billing period.
Below are the four upgrade scenarios, each with an example.
1. Annual Basic to Annual Pro
You are charged the price difference between Pro and Basic ($79 minus $39, which is $40 per month) for the months remaining in your current annual term. You pay this amount right away. When your current annual term ends, you are charged the full annual Pro price of $948, and your renewal continues at that rate.
Example: You are on the annual Basic plan with 4 months left in your term. When you upgrade, you are charged $160 now ($40 x 4 months). In 4 months, when your term renews, you are charged $948 for your first full year of Pro.
2. Monthly Basic to Monthly Pro (Mid-Cycle)
You are charged the daily price difference between the two monthly plans for the days remaining in your current month. Starting with your next billing cycle, you are charged the full monthly Pro price of $99.
Example: You are on the monthly Basic plan with 15 days left in your billing cycle. When you upgrade, you are charged $25 now. This comes from the daily difference between Pro at $99 and Basic at $49, multiplied by the 15 remaining days. From your next billing date onward, your monthly charge is $99.
3. Monthly Basic to Monthly Pro (End of Cycle)
If you upgrade right at the end of your billing cycle, there is nothing to prorate. You are charged $0 at the moment of the switch, and your new monthly charge of $99 begins with the next billing cycle.
Example: Your monthly Basic plan renews tomorrow, and you upgrade to Pro today. You pay nothing now, and starting tomorrow your subscription renews at $99 per month.
4. Monthly Basic to Annual Pro
When you switch from a monthly Basic plan to an annual Pro plan, the annual plan begins when your current monthly period ends. At the time of the upgrade, you are charged a small prorated amount based on the days remaining in your current monthly period. When that period ends, you are charged the full annual Pro price of $948.
Example: You are on the monthly Basic plan with 10 days left in your billing cycle, and you upgrade to annual Pro. You are charged roughly $9 to $10 now for the remaining days. In 10 days, when your monthly period ends, you are charged $948 for your first full year of Pro.
What About Downgrades?
Downgrades work differently from upgrades. If you move from Pro to Basic, the change takes effect at the end of your current billing period. You keep full Pro access until then, and there is no prorated charge or refund. See this for more information.
Your Data Is Always Safe
Your events, galleries, and guest data are never deleted when changing plans, whether you are upgrading or downgrading. Everything stays right where you left it.
