This article explains the Experience tab in Global Settings and how each option affects Photo Booth behavior while FMX is running.
Where to find it
Open FMX Dashboard
Go to Global Settings
In the left menu, select Experience (under Devices, alphabetically)
Adjust settings and click Save Changes (bottom-right)
Important: Changes are written to appsettings.json only after clicking Save Changes.
Run Experience on Software Restart
Toggle: Run Experience on Software Restart
What it does
When enabled, FMX automatically starts the Photo Booth experience after the application launches, once licensing and authentication are complete.
When to use it
Kiosk-style installations
Booths that must recover automatically after a reboot or power loss
Unattended environments
Notes
This affects the next application launch.
You will not see an immediate change until FMX restarts.
Idle Timeout (Auto Restart)
Setting: Idle Timeout (seconds)
What it does
When set to a value greater than 0, FMX monitors inactivity while the Experience is running.
If there is:
no touch
no mouse input
no keyboard input
no user interaction (including drawing interactions)
and the Experience is not on the first workflow node, FMX automatically restarts the workflow.
Recommended values
0 – Disabled
30–90 seconds – Typical kiosk recovery behavior
Notes
Designed to recover abandoned or stuck sessions
The timer resets on any user interaction
The first workflow node is excluded intentionally
Corner Shortcuts (Experience only)
Section: Corner Shortcuts (Experience only)
What it does
Enables hidden press-and-hold hotspots in each corner of the screen while the Experience is running.
Each corner can be:
Enabled or Disabled
Assigned a specific action
Hold behavior
Press and hold for approximately 3 seconds
Intended for operators and admins, not guests
Available actions
None
Open Gallery
Restart Workflow
Exit to Settings
Go to Next Step
Default configuration
By default:
Top Left: Enabled – Open Gallery
Top Right: Enabled – Exit to Settings
Bottom Left: Disabled – Restart Workflow
Bottom Right: Disabled – Go to Next Step
Tip: Enable Bottom Right → Go to Next Step if operators need a hidden “advance” control.
Offline Gallery note
If Open Gallery is used, press Ctrl+G to close the gallery and return.
Saving and Deployment Notes
Always click Save Changes to persist settings
Existing machines retain their saved configuration
Defaults apply only to fresh installs or resets
After changing Run Experience on Software Restart, restart FMX to verify behavior
Troubleshooting
Idle Timeout does not trigger
Confirm the value is greater than 0
Idle restart does not occur on the first workflow node
Corner shortcuts do not work
Verify the corner is enabled
Hold for the full 3 seconds
Confirm the Experience is running (shortcuts do not apply in Settings)
