FMX Supported CamerasUpdated 13 days ago

FMX Supported Cameras

Overview

FMX supports multiple camera types for tethered capture in photo booth environments.

Currently supported camera categories include:

• Canon EOS DSLR and mirrorless cameras — full integration via Canon EOS Digital SDK (EDSDK)
• Nikon DSLR cameras — basic tethered capture support via Nikon MAID Type0016 SDK
• Sony Alpha cameras — basic tethered capture support via Sony Camera Remote SDK
Webcams — all USB/UVC compliant webcams via Windows

Platform requirement: Windows 10 or Windows 11 (64-bit).

Important:
Canon cameras provide the most complete integration with FMX, including full remote control of camera settings directly from the software.
Nikon and Sony cameras are supported for basic tethered capture, but most camera settings should be configured directly on the camera body.

Supported Canon Cameras

SDK: Canon EOS Digital SDK (EDSDK) 13.19.10

Canon cameras offer the most complete control inside FMX, including:

• Remote capture
• Live view
• Camera setting control (ISO, shutter speed, aperture, white balance, etc.)
• Camera configuration directly from FMX

Note: Models marked with *1 do not support remote capture functions (file transfer may still work).

Supported Nikon Cameras

SDK: Nikon MAID Type0016 SDK

FMX supports Nikon DSLR cameras for basic tethered capture and live view.

Most camera settings such as ISO, shutter speed, aperture, and white balance should be configured directly on the camera.

Supported Nikon models include:

Nikon D2H
Nikon D2X
Nikon D2HS
Nikon D2XS
Nikon D40
Nikon D40X
Nikon D3
Nikon D300
Nikon D60
Nikon D3X

Nikon D810
Nikon D810A
Nikon D750
Nikon D5500
Nikon D7200
Nikon 1 V3
Nikon D5
Nikon D500
Nikon D5600

Notes:

• Nikon cameras should be configured to JPEG or JPEG+RAW capture mode. RAW-only mode is not supported.
• Camera settings should be adjusted directly on the camera body.

Supported Sony Cameras

SDK: Sony Camera Remote SDK (CrSDK)

FMX supports Sony Alpha cameras for basic tethered capture and live view.

Sony cameras are automatically detected at runtime through the Sony Camera Remote SDK. Any Sony camera supported by the CrSDK should work with FMX.

Typical supported families include:

• Sony Alpha A7 series
• Sony Alpha A7R series
• Sony Alpha A7S series
• Sony Alpha A9 series
• Sony Alpha A1 series

Because Sony support is based on the SDK, the exact list of supported models may expand as Sony updates their SDK.

Most camera settings should be configured directly on the camera.

Webcams (USB / UVC)

FMX supports all UVC-compliant USB webcams using Windows DirectShow/OpenCV.

If the webcam appears as a video device in Windows, it should work with FMX.

Typical examples include:

• Logitech webcams
• Microsoft webcams
• Laptop integrated cameras
• HDMI capture devices that present themselves as UVC webcams

Available controls (focus, exposure, zoom, etc.) depend on the webcam hardware and driver.

Important Notes and Recommendations

Best compatibility:
Canon cameras provide the most complete integration and control within FMX and are recommended when full camera control from the software is required.

USB connection:
Disable Wi-Fi on cameras when using USB tethering, as some cameras disable USB control when Wi-Fi is enabled.

Continuous power:
For events and long sessions, use an AC adapter or DC coupler instead of relying on batteries.

External flash / strobes:
Verify hot-shoe compatibility when planning to trigger external flashes or studio lighting.

Thermal considerations:
Ensure the selected camera supports sustained live view operation for the expected event duration.
